A rare opportunity has arisen at Nganampa Health Council for a General Manager to lead, as part of the Executive group, our skilled and dedicated staff team. This is a full-time role based in Umuwa, SA, although for the right candidate, Alice Springs could be a negotiable alternative. The expected start date is June, 2018. 

Reporting to the Nganampa Health Council Board and the Anangu Executive Director, this hands on, senior executive role will see you managing all of Nganampa Health Council operations.

More specifically, some of your primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide strategic information and advice to the Nganampa Health Council Board, particularly in relation to national policy settings, funding, stakeholder engagement, policy and program development, industrial relations and staffing;
  • Work closely with the Anangu Executive Director and Medical Director to advise and support the Board, and implement policy and strategic decisions;
  • Consult and liaise regularly about operational issues with Anangu Health Mayatja's at the local clinic level;
  • Take overall administrative responsibility for the day to day management of the health service and for the effective functioning of administrative and financial systems;
  • Ensure all reporting obligations are met and that compliance with the regulatory framework is adhered to;
  • Represent Nganampa Health Council at interagency meetings and community meetings across the APY Lands;
  • Actively promote the activities, programs, plans and achievements of the Board with Anangu and with external stakeholders;
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that adequate staff recruitment, selection, orientation, support and development processes are in place and that adequate staffing levels are maintained; and
  • Ensure an organisational strategic plan, business plan and risk management plan are approved and reviewed by the Board, and that the Board receives timely reports on the implementation of these plans; and
  • Supervise a range of senior staff including the Chief Financial Officer, Clinical Services Manager, Aged Care Program Manager, and other selected program managers.

Nganampa Health Council is seeking candidates with proven experience in strategic management, high level administration and operational management in the health or social and community services sector (ideally Indigenous Affairs). An understanding of the policy context in which Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations operate will be important, as will the ability to work under Aboriginal management and control.

An experienced and resilient leader, you will possess a proven ability to communicate with others in a highly effective manner, and will have a background in leading and contributing to multidisciplinary teams for the purposes of problem solving, and project/program development, implementation and review. The ability to work calmly and think strategically under pressure is essential to the success of the position. 

You will be well versed in business and finance, with strong commercial acumen. You will have high order written skills and the ability to prepare successful funding applications and program reports.

To be considered, you must hold a current Driver's License, be willing to undergo a Police Check prior to commencing employment and be willing to travel (including by light aircraft when necessary).
