Nganampa Health Council is an Aboriginal owned and controlled health organisation operating on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands in the far north west of South Australia. Nganampa Health Council has an exciting opportunity for a full-time qualified Cook to join their dedicated team based at Pukatja, in South Australia's remote north.
Working under the direction of the Residential Care Manager, you will be responsible for the preparation of nutritious meals for residents of the aged care facility, and the preparation of meals for Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) clients in the Pukatja community. This role also involves managing the facility kitchen, equipment and stores, and supervising other kitchen staff.
More specifically, your key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
The successful applicant will be from the food services industry, with either an appropriate qualification or equivalent experience. It is essential you possess a proven understanding of the principles and practice of safe and hygienic food storage, preparation and handling, coupled with high standards of personal hygiene and presentation.
Nganampa Health Council are seeking a highly organised and driven individual, who can communicate and participate effectively within a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary team, and demonstrate a high level of numeracy and literacy skills. You will also require the ability to teach, supervise and mentor other staff, as appropriate. Your demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development will ensure your success in this role.
Prior experience managing an equivalent food services operation is highly desirable, though not essential to this role. It will also be highly advantageous if you have Pitjantjatjara language skills, along with a good degree of computer literacy.
Candidates who are open to change, accepting of Aboriginal people, comfortable living in a remote environment and who are willing to learn the ways of the people will be best suited to this position. The ability to work under Aboriginal management and control will be highly regarded.
To be considered you will also require a current driver's licence and must be willing to undertake a National Police Check prior to commencing.
