Nganampa Health Council is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation operating on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in the far north west of South Australia. Across this area, NHC operates seven clinics and assorted health related programs including in aged care, sexual health, environmental health, health worker training, oral health, women’s health, male health, children’s health, immunisation, eye health and mental health.
Widely recognised as being an exemplary Aboriginal health service, Nganampa has sustained a national reputation for best practice primary health care services and leading edge collaborative program research and development. Their successes include significantly reducing the rates of sexually transmitted infections, increasing birth weights through their antenatal program and consistently keeping childhood immunisation rates at over 90% (some years at 100%).
Nganampa Health Council is currently looking for a full-time Health Services Manager to join their executive leadership team. It is expected you will be based in Umuwa, SA for at least 26 weeks of the year, with extensive travel throughout the APY lands and to inter- and intra-state meetings as required.
Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director, this is a senior position that will see you provide management support and direction to Nganampa Health Council in the execution of the strategic plan, ensure organisational compliance is adhered to, maintain accreditation standards and support the Leadership team in the provision of business plans, operational systems and infrastructure improvements.
More specifically, some of your primary responsibilities will be to:
To be successful you will have significant experience in operational leadership and administration, with a strong understanding of change management processes, and a high level of financial literacy and financial management skills and experience.
A demonstrated history of working with Aboriginal organisations, under Aboriginal management and control will be essential, preferably in remote areas or related to remote health care. A relevant tertiary qualification, in health, social sciences or similar field would be highly regarded, though not essential provided you have extensive experience in this sector.
A strong negotiator with well-developed communication skills, you will be adept at building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, able to adapt your approach as needed to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment and engage with individuals who may have varying levels of verbal and written English.
An experienced and resilient leader, you'll be able to work calmly and think strategically under pressure, with a background in leading and contributing to multidisciplinary teams for the purposes of problem solving, and project/program development, implementation and review.
Finally, Nganampa is looking for someone with a genuine interest in working with, and learning from, Aboriginal people and communities, who is committed to inclusive decision making and communicates openly and honestly with individuals at all levels.
Please note: This role will involve extensive travel to remote areas, via dirt roads, 4WD vehicles and light aircraft, when necessary. You will need a current Driver's License and be willing to undergo a Police Check and Working With Children Check prior to commencing employment.

The Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yunkunytjatjara (APY) Lands cover over 100,000 square kilometres of remote South Australia, near the intersection of the SA, NT and WA borders. Home to around 3000 people, spread over seven main communities and seventeen homelands, the land was returned to the traditional owners in 1981.
