Nganampa Health Council is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation operating on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in the far north west of South Australia. Across this area, NHC operates seven clinics and assorted health related programs including in aged care, sexual health, environmental health, health worker training, oral health, women’s health, male health, children’s health, immunisation, eye health and mental health.

Widely recognised as being an exemplary Aboriginal health service, Nganampa has sustained a national reputation for best practice primary health care services and leading edge collaborative program research and development. Their successes include significantly reducing the rates of sexually transmitted infections, increasing birth weights through their antenatal program and consistently keeping childhood immunisation rates at over 90% (some years at 100%).

Your New Career

Nganampa Health Council (NHC) is currently looking for a Maintenance Officer to join their team on a full-time basis. Due to the nature of the role, applicants currently residing on the APY Lands will be preferred. If relocating you can choose to be based in Umuwa, SA or Alice Springs, with regular travel to the APY Lands.

As Maintenance Officer you will be providing expert advice and guidance in regards to all maintenance work required to support the efficient operation and continuity of Nganampa Health Council services, including a range of buildings, plant and equipment.

Working under the direction of the Health Services Manager your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing NHC’s maintenance program, documenting, monitoring and reporting on all maintenance requests;
  • Checking in with NHC clinics and facilities, identifying any maintenance needs or future concerns;
  • Performing hands-on maintenance and handyperson duties where needed;
  • Seeking quotes for maintenance work as required, booking and overseeing contractors or service providers;
  • Developing and implementing approved preventive and predictive maintenance plans to minimise equipment down town; and
  • Monitoring and reporting against annual maintenance budget.

To be successful you'll be patient and flexible, ideally with a trade qualification in a relevant field, such as plumbing, air conditioning or carpentry.

You'll be confident communicating and participating within a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary team, with a demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety, quality assurance, continuous improvement and environmental management principles.

A strong problem solver, you will have demonstrated experience in maintenance management, with a proven ability to make sound judgements, prioritise competing demands, and deliver great outcomes for the staff and communities you'll support. Experience in project management or contract and purchasing strategies will be highly regarded.

Finally, Nganampa is looking for someone with a genuine interest in working with and learning from, Aboriginal people and communities, who is committed to inclusive decision making and communicates openly and honestly with individuals at all levels.

Please note: This role will involve extensive travel to remote communities via unsealed dirt roads and so you must be comfortable with this. 4WD training will be provided by NHC. You will also need a current manual Driver's License and be willing to undergo a Police Check and Working With Children Check prior to commencing employment.
